about

This song was recorded and produced by Casey Combest of Blue Sky Studios in Jackson, MS, and featured on the compilation album "4,000 Riel," (ar.gy/Riel) to raise funds and awareness to fight human trafficking in Cambodia.

The song is based on a chapter in "The Little Prince," in which the title character meets a fox; the Prince's encounter with the fox is a parable about friendship.

This song is dedicated to the memory of Simon Hamburg, a better friend than I deserved.

lyrics

In the days before I met you, I'd wait for the Thursdays when hunters would dance with the girls from the town

Now I wait in the fields like a fool, and anticipate the same time every day when you used to come around

You'd sit by the corner of my eye and share the quiet; and yet we would let ourselves sit closer every day

So you spoke, in the time that we had, of things all too often forgotten--of roses, of rites, and of men

Now I've learned the sound of your steps, my heart will discover the price of our happiness time and again

I was just like a hundred thousand others, but you chose me... I had no choice...

Now you've gone, and I face on my own, the weight of my countless decisions, the ruins of all I had planned

I wish I'd known what you meant when you said that you had more friends to discover and a lot of things to understand

Why did I let you tame my heart, oh you said you were leaving...

All the while you longed for something more than this...

But I can still see your face in every star, every grain...

I had so much more left to tell you, I hope that somehow you can hear.
